About Filmmaking
Filmmaking is an advanced level digital arts course building on the knowledge and skills learned in Media Arts and/or Advertising Design. Filmmaking is specifically designed to enhance student experience through the entire creative process of filmmaking—from film concept through digital editing and production. Students will continue to develop their expertise using advanced digital editing programs, such as iMovie and Adobe After Effects. Filmmaking will provide students with a variety of creative and challenging art projects focusing on advanced techniques in digital video and editing. This course addresses fundamental issues as well as the more challenging practice of video by artists working in this medium. Building on experiences learned in Media Arts and/or Advertising Design students will continue to develop quality work enhancing their portfolios in preparation for college and career readiness. Many students taking Filmmaking will also take other advanced art classes providing them with a five course Visual Arts sequence. Students who are on track to take AP Art Studio are encouraged to take advanced digital courses to aid in the development of the digital arts portion of their portfolios. The artwork produced in Filmmaking with be suitable for portfolio review by the College Board Advanced Placement Program, examiners of college entrance portfolios, and/or potential employers.
